Twilight & Sunset at the Hoad Bookmark

This bookmark has two designs printed on either side. Both illustrations are inspired by the lovely town of Ulverston, featuring the Hoad monument and surrounding landscape. The Hoad can be found in the North West of England, Cumbria just on the outskirts of the Lake District. The print features the wonderful Hoad monument - sometimes known as the 'Pepper Pot' which was built to commemorate Sir John Barrow. 

In Ulverston there are many beautifully painted coloured houses dotted around the town which provided a huge inspiration to me. I decided to put all of the coloured houses next to each other to bring pops of colour into the print. Situated at the bottom of Hoad Hill are rows of the terraced houses. 

On the other side of the bookmark, is a snippet of an artwork titled "A run to the Hoad at Twilight," which also features the Hoad Monument.

During the week, I work in a studio based in Ulverston, where we’re lucky to have a beautiful view of the Sir John Barrow Monument. One evening in winter, as I was getting ready to head home, I noticed a cluster of bright lights twinkling on Hoad Hill. There were around 30 runners gradually making their way down the hillside. They were well equipped for the darker conditions, each wearing a head torch to illuminate the path ahead, which created a fun light display! As someone who enjoys a run myself, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by the spectacle.

This bookmark would be a lovely gift for any book lover, especially those who are fond of Ulverston, Cumbria. 

This bookmark has been adapted from original drawings, which can also be found on my shop called "Sunset in Ulverston," and "A run to the Hoad at Twilight." It has been drawn digitally and printed onto high quality fine art 350gsm matte card.
